Nijmegen – Top tennis player Demi Schuurs has committed herself as the first ambassador to the EuroGames22 in Nijmegen. She will be the face of tennis, one of the sports at Europe’s largest sports festival for a LGBT+ target group that will take place from 27 to 30 July in the oldest city in the Netherlands.
Demi Schuurs believes the importance of sports for everyone is great!
Demi Schuurs is the Netherlands’ best tennis player in doubles with a twelfth place in the world rankings. She has a number of major tennis tournaments to her name, participated in the Olympics with Kiki Bertens and recently got engaged to her friend Carmen. She is open about her own sexuality because she very much believes that visibility increases acceptance and inclusion. Demi sees that this is still far from self-evident at all tennis clubs and is therefore pleased with the 25 LGBTQI+ tournaments in Europe.
Tennis tournament from Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 July 2022 at TV Rapiditas
Due to her busy international schedule, Demi Schuurs unfortunately cannot participate in the EuroGames. The tennis tournament will take place from Thursday, July 28 to Saturday, July 30, 2022 at TV Rapiditas in Nijmegen. The tournament is specifically meant for LGBTQI+ tennis players of all levels from all over Europe, but everyone who wants to join is welcome. Demi hopes that it will contribute to further development of LGBTQI+ tennis in Europe and beyond. Demi Schuurs also hopes that tennis players will find their way to regular tennis clubs and that they will feel safe there.

Besides tennis, 18 other sports tournaments will take place simultaneously. Registrations opened recently on Coming Out Day. Nijmegen will be fully judged by rainbow flags during the event with sports tournaments at many different locations and with the sports village and opening and closing in the city.
