Opening ceremony 22 – Huge Success

Flags, speeches & celebrations

The athletes and their many supporters, EuroGames fans, sponsors, and the rest all got to meet each other last night at the EuroGames22 opening ceremony as The Waalkade turned into a massive light show and dance floor with over 2500 excited visitors dancing, singing, and cheering the night away.

The warming-up and rehearsals started earlier in the day in the Sports-Village, under the experienced instruction of Haus of ThomTom and Nijmeegse Annie.

The whole show was opened by the flag bearers, presenting their countries to a 2500-strong audience, on the stage of the Waalkade. The evening kicked off with speeches from the very entertaining Lord Mayor of Nijmegen, Hubert Burls and the alderman of Gelderland Jan Markink.

The showstopper, Ellen ten Damme set the stage alight, and hearts beating extra fast, Son Mieux en Deirdre Angenent took our collective breath away.

Last night’s amazing performances inspired everyone to go win some tournaments and make our EuroGames even more of a success than it already is.
