Nijmegen – With just under 300 days to go until the start of the event, registrations for the EuroGames 2022 in Nijmegen opened today – on Coming Out Day. Europe´s biggest sports festival for the LGBTQI+ community will take place from 27 to 30 July in the oldest city in the Netherlands.
Nineteen sports tournaments
Participants can choose to register from no less than nineteen different sports tournaments, from athletics to golf and from table tennis to petanque. Registration can accessed via the event’s website. Eager athletes can participate in more than one sport at a reduced rate, as long as the sports programmes do not overlap. It is expected that many participants will also participate in the 5 or 10 km run from the Kaaij late Saturday afternoon at the end of the EuroGames. With the Spiegelwaal (rowing), De Vereeniging (ballroom dance and bridge), the SportQube (martial arts), the Erica Terpstrabad (swimming) and the Radboud Sports Centre (volleyball and squash), there are plenty and more beautiful locations where athletes will compete to win one of those coveted medals at the end of July next year.
Volunteers welcome!
Together with the registrations for participants, the registration for volunteers is now open as well. Many volunteers are needed for the realisation of this big event, which in addition to the sports tournaments also includes an opening ceremony on the Grote Markt, and a Sports Village and closing ceremony on the Mariënburgplein. As mentioned, enthusiasts can now register directly through the website. Volunteers who want to be part of the preparations of the tournament as well can also register.
Pink Summer Sports Tournament
A number of sports organisations will be warming up for the EuroGames this weekend during the Pink Summer Sports tournament in the city of Nijmegen, organised by Gay Sport Nijmegen. For swimming, badminton, volleyball, football and running this can be considered a test event in the run-up to the EuroGames in July next year.
