AMBASSADOR
Name: Johan Kenkhuis

Johan Kenkhuis is a former top Dutch swimmer and Olympic medalist. His debut was in 1998 and his swimming event was “freestyle”. He won many medals, such as a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics. He ended his career in 2006. Johan is the regular swimming analyst of NOS Sport and has his own swimming pool in Amsterdam, SwimGym. He also launched a digital platform for swim training in 2020.
“It was very uncomfortable in the beginning with my coming out to feel freedom and that I could show who I was. A coming out should actually be a celebration, because everything gets better afterwards. You feel more free, have more fun and also more energy. You become a better (top) athlete when you come out of the closet. It is very
good for the visibility and the feeling of togetherness that events like EuroGames are organised.¨
RULES
The Swimming tournament will be judged according to the FINA rules.
Participation of transgender and non-binary swimmers
Swimming during the Eurogames 2022 will take place according to the FINA guidelines. However, concerning the participation of people who identify as transgender and/or non-binary, we are following the advice of NOC*NSF on inclusivity. This means that swimmers can make their own choice as to whether they swim in the male, female or non-binary category. We believe that everyone is entitled to equal and respectful treatment and should be able to enjoy competitive swimming. Exclusion of transgender and non-binary individuals is not part of this.
